Patra Baker Technology Scholarship

The City of Fort Lauderdale Bank United ICARE™ Ventures Team and Next Weekend Productions, Inc proudly provide and support The Patra Baker Technology Scholarship  to be shared between a maximum of five selected students and who will be enrolled in an institution of higher learning (Trade Schools, Technical Colleges, Colleges, and Universities) in the 2026-2027 school year.

Ms. Patra R. Baker (March 12, 1983 – December 9, 2024) was a Production Management Professional and member of the Next Weekend Productions, Inc. team from 2013 until 2024. For the last 5 years of her tenure, in her role as a Producer, Ms. Baker operated and maintained the company’s audio-visual equipment and technology, oversaw production processes and schedules, and worked closely with clients to provide their audio-visual requirements. Ms. Baker was also an Recreation Coordinator with the Broward County Parks and Recreation Department who worked closely with Teens. Ms. Baker provided challenging, exciting, and engaging programs for the Teens as well as homework assistance. Most of all Ms. Baker enjoyed being a friend to the Teens and mentoring them in college preparedness.

Meet this Year’s Scholarship Recipients

The recipients of this year’s Technology Scholarship Awards have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, dedication, and potential in their respective fields. Through hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence, these outstanding students have earned the distinction of being selected as the Patra Baker Tech Scholarship awardees.
 
The financial support provided will help alleviate the costs associated with higher education, enabling awardees to focus on advancing their studies, developing critical technical skills, and pursuing their career aspirations.
 
As they pursue higher levels of academic and professional achievement, these distinguished  scholarship awardees are positioned to make lasting contributions to the technology field, utilizing their education and talents to advance innovation, strengthen communities, and pursue opportunities that will enable them to make meaningful contributions to the ever-evolving technology sector.

Shamar Barnes

  1. Attends Orange Technical 
  2. GPA: 3.0
  3. Long Standing Member of Adeimu Men of Excellence Incorporated
  4. Currently in an Apprenticeship to becoming a Electrical Engineer and Journeyman in Orlando, Florida
  5. Fun Fact: In his spare time, he loves to go bowling

Nichole Choute

  1. Graduated from William H. Turner Technical Arts High School with an Associates in Arts Degree.
  2. GPA: 3.9
  3. Has her certification in CPR, OSHA, and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA). 
  4. Member of Key Club, National Honor Society, HOSA, Breakthrough Miami, The Youth Advisory Committee, SheMaths. Also a volunteer for Feeding the South Miami and the Lotus House. 
  5. She will be attending Florida International University to pursue her Bachelors in Biological Science to later become a Pediatrician. 
  6. Fun Fact: Loves arts and crafts and making jewelry. 

Ahryel Emmons

  1. Graduated from Dillard High School
  2. GPA: 3.6
  3. Ahryel has long term experience in hands-on kitchen management and food safety.
  4. She will be attending Sheridan Technical College and then transferring to Florida Atlantic University to pursue her degree in Hospitality and Business Administration.
  5. Fun Fact: Ahryel learned to cook at 4 years old by her mother and grandmother.

Aleeyah Martin

  1. Graduate from Coral Glades High School
  2. GPA: 3.5
  3. Member of National Technical Honor Society, Shanti, Key Club, Crochet Club, Women of Tomorrow.
  4. She will be attending Florida International University to pursue Psychology in the Pre-Nursing Pathway Program
  5. Fun Fact: Loves Crochet

Victoria Mason

  1. Graduated from Abundant Life Christian Academy
  2. GPA: 3.9
  3. She will be attending Georgia Southern University to major in Chemistry to pursue her career in healthcare.
  4. Fun Fact: she loves photography and watching the sunrise and sunset.

Patra Baker Tech Scholarship Requirements & Submission Instructions

  1. Must be a high school senior or in your first or second year enrolled in a University or Trade School.
  2. GPA must be at least a 2.5 or higher.
  3. Submit Application Information
  4. Include all social media handles (i.e. Instagram, Twitter, TikTok.)
  5. Submit a one-page double space essay explaining your three-year goal plan. No AI Generated essays as your application will not be considered.
  6. Must submit highest SAT/ACT score or Transcript  
  7. *Acceptance letter from College/Institution  (if received).

Please submit the following information via the application file (SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTION FILE) to info@Blackgeniusinflight.org with the Subject line “Your Name” Patra Baker Scholarship Submission:

*Scholarship recipients must submit a copy of their acceptance letter from their College/Institution prior to the disbursement of the scholarship funds.
